For non-profit arts institutions in North America, annual course brochures are massive operational assets: dozens of pages detailing developmental age brackets, studio prerequisites, bursary criteria, and progressive curricula. While acclaimed among English-speaking arts patrons, these dense administrative guides often create steep onboarding friction for first-generation immigrant parents, who are unfamiliar with exploratory, non-exam-based Western arts pedagogy.
Tasked with producing the official Chinese edition of Arts Umbrella's comprehensive program guide, the objective extended far beyond word-for-word translation. The transcreation re-architected institutional jargon into clear, reassuring developmental milestones—translating studio terminology into intuitive language while maintaining the precise typography and visual rigor of the original design.
