I’m Lin Yin. I started as a journalist and became a Chinese-English writer and marketing strategist, working with brands that need to sound native, and act like it, in a language that isn’t their first.’

I’ve been living between two languages since I was young: a History degree in China and a Master’s in Journalism in Canada. After graduating, I spent the next decade in newsrooms, writing for outlets on both sides of the Pacific including CNN and Xinhua News Agency. My journalism years ended in 2015, when I left the Vancouver Sun.

I’ve since worked as a bilingual writer and consultant for brands including Lisa Eldridge Beauty and ZIIP, and as a regular contributor to Vogue China and SSENSE, with English business writing published by BWZ.

Journalism taught me to verify before I write and to cut anything that doesn’t serve the reader; history taught me to look for the pattern underneath the story. Neither habit goes away when the byline changes from news to brand work. I hold my own platform to the same standard: AsWeBuild, a RedNote channel for Chinese-speaking entrepreneurs in Canada, with 46,000+ followers.
